What Is High-Pressure Oxygen?

Breathing oxygen at higher-than-normal pressure inside a sealed chamber — and why so many people are curious about the experience.

// The simple version

More oxygen, gently delivered

Normally, the air around us is about 21% oxygen at standard atmospheric pressure. Inside a high-pressure oxygen chamber, you breathe oxygen-enriched air while the cabin is gently pressurized above normal pressure.

Under these conditions, your body can take in more oxygen than ordinary breathing allows — and that extra oxygen dissolves more readily into the bloodstream. It's a calm, passive experience: you simply sit back and breathe.

// Step by step

How a session works

1

Settle in

You enter the chamber and get comfortable — seated or lying down, fully clothed.

2

Gentle pressurization

The cabin pressure rises slowly to a set level — Oxyliving chambers operate around 2 ATA.

3

Breathe & relax

You breathe oxygen-enriched air and unwind — read, watch a screen, or simply rest.

4

Gradual release

At the end, the pressure is released slowly before you step back out.

// Under the surface

What's actually happening?

Two things change at once. First, the air you breathe is richer in oxygen. Second, the raised pressure helps that oxygen dissolve into your blood plasma — not only the red blood cells.

Together, that means more oxygen is carried around the body throughout the session. When the session ends, the pressure is released slowly and you return to normal conditions.
